About Us

In 2012, we realized our children were old enough that we could leave them unsupervised at home for an evening and go out to eat once a week.  The possibilities!  The freedom!  We could have a nice meal with no "stop looking at me!" arguments across the table.  In a heady rush, we established a once-a week Date Night and marked our calendars.

Our excitement crashed down quickly when we realized that we hadn't been out to eat in a long time and had no idea where to go. The only restaurants we knew were the nearest fast food joints, pizza places, the Chinese place where we get fantastic take out, the great Mexican place down the road, and a local Southern-style chain with good food and bad service.

We found a great steak place near the public library.  We found a nice local Italian place in the shopping district. Then we sort of fizzled out.  Sam and I would be driving, see a restaurant, and mention "we should go there for date night sometime," only to forget (or chicken out) when date night came around.  So after a year of some unexciting dining, we decided to start exploring the restaurants around Lexington.

Now, Sam being Sam, he wanted a way to keep track of the places we visited.  Me being me, I wanted notes on whether I liked the place or not.  Hence Sam and Melissa's Date Night Dining was born.
